We've Been Where You're Planning to Go

About Us — Cappadocia Scape

Most travel sites about Cappadocia are written by people who’ve never actually stood inside a cave dwelling at sunrise, watched a hundred hot air balloons rise silently over the valleys, or gotten completely lost in the fairy chimneys of Göreme  and loved every second of it.

Who's Behind This Site

Hi, I’m Alex Carter — a traveler and writer who became a little obsessed with Cappadocia after my first trip there in October 2023.

I’d been planning that trip for months. Cross-referencing Reddit threads, YouTube vlogs, TripAdvisor reviews — the whole thing. I thought I was prepared.

I wasn’t.

The balloon company everyone recommended had tripled their prices. The “hidden gem” restaurant had closed. The hostel with five stars hadn’t updated their listing since 2019. And the “easy” hike I’d bookmarked? Nobody mentioned it takes three hours in direct sun with no water source along the way.

So I did what any frustrated traveler would do.

I went back. And then again.

Three trips. Different seasons. Different parts of the region. A lot of notes.

For years, those notes stayed in my travel journals and personal trip plans. I enjoyed researching destinations, exploring new places, and helping friends plan their own adventures, but I never thought about sharing that information publicly.

Over time, I realized that many travelers were running into the same problems I faced on my first trip — outdated information, generic travel advice, and guides that didn’t answer practical questions.

That’s when I decided to bring my experience and research online.

Cappadocia Scape was created to share practical travel guides, honest planning advice, and useful resources for people who want to experience Cappadocia with confidence.

This site is what I wish had existed before that first trip.

Why I Do This

Cappadocia changed something in me,  I know that sounds dramatic, but it’s true.

There’s nowhere else on earth that looks like it. Standing at the edge of Rose Valley at golden hour, or squeezing through a 2,000-year-old underground tunnel in Derinkuyu  these aren’t tourist experiences. They’re the kind of moments you carry home with you.

I want more Americans to have those moments — without the planning headaches I went through.

That’s the whole point of this site.
